This post is at the top of the list of the hardest posts I have done. Many of you may have already been made aware that Shad was in an accident yesterday. I am not going to get caught up in all the details since I wasn't there and I am not sure exactly what happened. This is what I do know: Shad went dirt bike riding with his friend Nick and his brother, Lafe, who was riding our four wheeler out at five mile pass. Five mile pass is out past Eagle Mountain (about an hour from Provo). They rode for a few hours and were on their way back to the truck and trailer. Shad was riding in front of Lafe and Nick on a flat straight dirt road. From what Shad said the road seemed smooth. Before he had time to stop Shad came up to a section of the road that had a flash flood come through and wiped out a 8 feet deep section of the road. You couldn't see it until you were a few feet in front it which is not enough time to stop. He didn't fully successfully jump it. He was launched over the front of his dirt bike and landed on a rock. Lafe said he was in and out of consciousness for some time. He couldn't remember me or Brinley. Lafe called me as soon as he had cell service and I don't think I can even express the sadness and fear that I felt at that time. To know that the man I love more than anything could possibly die. They were out in the middle of no where and Shad was going into shock. Nick left on the four wheeler to get the truck to get Shad to the hospital. I am not sure how long they were waiting for Nick and I have no idea what that would have been like to see him in the condition he was in and to be out in the middle of no where with no immediate help. The accident happened about 3:30. As soon as they loaded Shad up Nick was FLYING down the road. He must have been going fast because they were pulled over. The highway patrol man was nice enough to call an ambulance and not give Nick a ticket. Shad arrived at the hospital around 7:30pm. He was in EXTREME pain. He kept complaining about his back. They did multiple x-rays on his head, neck and back. They did tests to make sure he wasn't bleeding internally. Around 9:30pm the doctor came in with shocking news....Shad had a mild concussion, sprained wrist and a compound fracture in his first vertebrae. He was released last night which was a MIRACLE. He should have had internal bleeding, broken bones and who knows what else with how fast he was going, how far he flew and where he landed (on a nice big rock)! I don't think we can express how grateful we are. We know that God was with us (especially Shad) and who knows who else was there to watch over him. Lafe and Nick were both heaven sent with all they did. The situation could have been sooo much worse. If Shad didn't wreck Lafe wouldn't have seen the washout either and would have landed right in the section of road that was washed out and who knows what else. Shad has an appointment with a back surgeon on Monday. Most likely there is nothing they can do to fix the fracture. It will just take time and he will have it the rest of his life. We would like to thank ALL of you for your thoughts, prayers and service in our behalf. It has blessed us in more ways that we can say. We will keep you posted on his progress and post pictures as soon as I can! All of our love-Shad, Audrey and Brinley

Aud and Shad.. It is a scary time I know exactly how you are feeling and reading your post brought tears to my eyes and feelings of Matt's accident to surface again. I remember the fear and the unknown of driving to the hospital thinking to myself is he going to live or die it was really hard and tear jerking.. I know where you are coming from and I'm so sorry.. Sell that stuff and stay safe.. There are tons of people in this world that would miss you if anything ever happened to you... We love you so much and glad that you had your guardian angels watching over you.. Sorry we would come visit but don't want to get you all sick. We are sick again we just can't get rid of this crap... I hope that you will heal Shad and you will be back to normal soon.. Take lots of Calcium it will help your bones fuse back together faster....
