It's been 1 year...what a day

Yesterday marked one year since Shad's dirt bike accident. I can't believe it has already been a year. I have known that this day was coming for a while. On Friday Shad's mom and her husband, Les, came down from Idaho to buy a truck from Shad and spend the night. On Saturday morning we were woken up by Shad's mom saying that there wasn't running water upstairs and that we may have a frozen pipe. This really started the day off right :) After Shad and Les did some investigating upstairs and in the crawl space they decided that Shad needed to access the area above the garage to find the pipe to see if it really was frozen. A few weeks ago we found out that we didn't have insulation in our attic or spacing between the two floors so we had R-49 blown in. The insulation is very light, slick and all over the trusses. Shad climbed into the access and was walking on the trusses/beams to find the pipe. Apparently, when he reached for the pipe his foot slipped on some of the insulation, broke through the dry wall and he almost fell onto the concrete below. I was in the kitchen with my mother in law making breakfast when I heard a loud crash. I admit I wasn't in the best of moods and on edge to begin with. I ran out to the garage to see drywall and insulation all over the ground and Les looking as shock as I was. Shad wasn't responding to my desperate questions of concern. Finally, he let Les know he was okay. Somehow Shad was able to hold himself in the rafters to prevent himself from falling onto the concrete. He ended up breaking a couple ribs. I am just grateful that he is okay. It could have been a lot worse. I think Les got hit in the head with some dry wall, but other than that everyone is alive!!! Les was so great to help Shad put the insulation on the floor into bags, get a new piece of drywall and help Shad put it up over the hole. My mother in law help me with Brinley, do some laundry and all the dishes! I can't express how grateful I am for the help!!! We did have a frozen pipe which didn't break. Shad and Les were able to get the pipe taken care of so it hopefully won't freeze again. What a day. Despite Shad's injuries he has been able to do a lot more than he could a year ago at this time. It took about 8 months for Shad to be able to lift a large amount of weight like he use to and another few months to really start to feel back to normal. There are times he still comes home and hurts really bad after a long day and after falling on his ribs and back it may be pretty painful for a while. I am so proud of how far he has come. He has worked through the pain to make sure Brin and I are taken care of and safe. It means more to me than I can express. I am thankful that the Lord has let him live and not have any serious complications!!!

Some of you may remember our close friend who we consider family that passed away last September. His wife actually fell off of a ladder last week and hit her head (and hurt her toe). We are grateful that she is doing well and has no serious injuries! What a week!

Update on Shad

Shad went for a follow-up visit to the doctor. He keeps having extreme pain above where the doctor told him the compressed vertabre is. Shad made them X-ray higher (you gotta love "medical professionals") and sure enough T12 is pretty much fractured right down the middle (it is worse than L1). All they can do, unless he wants to have pins put in, is wait and let them fuse back together. He is still on drugs for the pain and can't lift anything very heavy for another month or so.

Doctor's Appt and Tag

Shad went to his appointment on Friday and all is well so far. He will have to wear a back brace for the next 30 days. At his follow-up appointment in a month they will do another x-ray to make sure the compression fracture is not compressing more. I am proud of my hubbie for handling the pain soo well! He is tough.

No appointment today

Shad is doing a little better today. Nick took him for a ride to go buy a car and then he came home and slept. He wasn't feeling good enough to go to his appointment today so we had to reschedule for Friday. We will post again soon!

Another Update

So far today has been Shad's hardest day. I think it is partly because he didn't get any sleep last night. His whole body hurts and aches. His ears are ringing and he can't hear very well. He is dizzy, nauseous, bruised and tired. He has slept most of the day today. The surgeon was not able to see him until tomorrow so we will do another update once we meet with him. Other than that it will be a slow recovery. He can't lift anything over 20lbs for the next few months and he can't do really anything for the next few weeks. As for me, I am hanging in there. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful baby. If she was demanding it would make life very difficult! The hardest part lately has been seeing my husband go through this. For me it is nothing to do what I do for him and count it as a blessing. I think I am a little numb with all the challenges we have faced lately. I feel like the Lord has been with us every step of the way and provided peace, an imensen amount of strength and comfort. We again want to thank everyone for their love and support. It has been amazing to see how many people are there to help and support us....THANK YOU, WE LOVE YOU ALL and could not be where we are without you!!!!!!
