San Diego

In desperate need of rest and relaxation Shad and I took a spontaneous trip down to San Diego for the weekend. Shad's mom stayed with Brinley and Breckin so Shad and I could go alone, it was really nice! On Friday we went and did a session at the temple. Hands down it is the most beautiful temple I have ever seen or been in. The atrium outside of the celestial room was amazing and the celestial room itself was gorgeous. I did not want to leave...it was so calm and peaceful. One of the temple workers told us they have a patented on the blue sky, it is San Diego blue. I now know why it is Shad's favorite temple. On Saturday we went to the swap meet in Mission Bay. It was a lot of fun until the crowd started smelling like weed and cigarette smoke....it gave us both a headache. I was able to get a bunch of cute clothes and shoes for cheap. I loved how so many booths had handmade items. Shad couldn't find anything he liked at the swap meet so we went downtown to an outdoor shopping center. The location was stunning. It was across the bay from Coronado island. He has been into his Harley Davidson and wanted to get some shirts from there. He found some really nice clothes. While he loaded his goods in the car I thought it would be fun to try some gourmet cupcakes. They looked good, but they weren't $3.50 each good. I guess it hard to please someone who makes cakes???

The rest of the time we were there we ate, slept (mainly me Shad couldn't believe how much I slept) and drove around. Shad took me to the places he served his mission. One of the areas was pretty scary. All of the houses had metal fences and bars on the outside. It was creepy. I was nervous that we were going to get shot or robbed. Shad said that it was an area with a plethora of gangs and if I wasn't scared he would be worried. We also went and visited with a guy Shad taught on his mission. He owns a sushi restaurant in National City. It was the best sushi I have ever had. It was so fresh..I still crave it. We ate a lot of Vietnamese food too. I am still having withdrawals! There is such a large population of Vietnamese people they have a grocery store that is all Vietnamese. When we walked out of the store a Vietnamese girl told her friend in Vietnamese, "white people". One of the funniest things we experienced was when we went out to dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant in Mission Bay. When we walked in there were two Asians talking to each other in Vietnamese. When we sat down to look at the menu Shad told me they were talking about me. The lady was saying how tired the white girl looked. When the server came over to take our order Shad ordered it in Vietnamese. You should have seen the look on their faces...the lady got up and walked away and the man said to Shad, "you speak Vietnamese" in Vietnamese with a shocked look on his face. After the ice was broken Shad turned into an Asian :) It was really cool to see him only speak and carry on a conversation in Vietnamese. Right before we left the lady who was talking about me came up to us and told him I was pretty in Vietnamese. Shad laughed and told me she did it to save face. We had such a good time. I LOVED being in the sunshine. He loved driving us around with the convertible top down. I am sure people knew we were tourists because we were the only ones dressed like it was summer and drove around with the top down. I am glad we were only gone for a few days because we both starting having a really hard time being without our kids especially with all Breckin has been through.
