One of Shad's best friends Jamie Price got married on May 26th in Houston. I really wanted to go, but we didn't know what to do with our kids since Shad's mom was going out of town around that same time. My amazing Shad knew how bad I wanted to go and he figured out our plan. I packed all day Wednesday. When I asked Brin to help me pack her and brother got in the suitcase. It was too funny! She also thought it would be great to use my lipgloss to make herself "rosy" cheeks. We woke up at 5:00am on Thursday morning and drove to Boise. We pulled into his mom's house at 11:30ish. We ate, dropped of the kids and were to the airport by 12:15pm. We made it in time for our 1:20 flight. After a layover in Pheonix, where we met Rob Schneider and his wife who were also on the same flight as us. They were really nice and down to earth people. Not what I expected from a celebrity. We arrived in Houston at 7:40pm (8:40pm our time) and we were tired!! For our car rental I thought Shad would pick a compact car, but oh no we were cruising around in a Crown Vic aka grandpa car. It was pretty funny. I have to admit it was really comfortable. Pretty much all of the people we met as soon as we arrived were so nice and hospitable. Which is sad because people in general are not like that here.
Friday we were able to sleep in, yay! We ate and headed over to the temple to run an errand for JP. I didn't know that outside of Utah the distribution centers are usually at the temple. I had no idea, but it makes sense. Then we headed to Lake Jackson to Leah's house. I LOVED the weather. Most people think I am crazy when it comes to my love of the heat. Shad kept freezing me out at the hotel. We had lunch with the two love birds at a delicious mexican restaurant. Shad told the waiter it was JP's b-day, not true, but he was sung to and they had him wear a sombrero. He decided to share the fun with his wife to be. I miss the mexican food in Texas it is so much better than anywhere that I have been to in Utah. JP took us on a tour of where he grew up in Angleton. At the beach we saw massive ships and tankers. The oil "plants/fields" that we saw were as big as Utah Valley it seemed like. I couldn't believe it. Houston made Salt Lake look so tiny. We also saw the bayou that JP lives on. It was a pretty nice setup right on the river with a dock and all. The grass was different there. It was corse and patchy almost like weeds:) not really the type you want to sit and lay on. Lots of mosquitos there too! It was really lush and green though and I wish we had more time to spend there especially to go see NASA...."Houston, we've had a problem". That night we all stayed at the same hotel close to the temple. I can say that not by my choice I ended up somehow getting two of the worst hamburgers I have had in my life on the same day. One that Shad ordered that he didn't want so we switched sandwiches and another one the night before the wedding at a hamburger shop. I thought I was getting a pulled pork sandwich and ended up with a hamburger instead. I don't want to see another hamburger for quite sometime. We had a good time catching up with JP and meeting Leah. She is so sweet and the perfect match for Jamie.
Saturday morning we got ready and headed over to the temple. I was surprised that the temple was not very big and found out later that there aren't a whole lot of LDS people in that area. The major religion is southern baptist. Any how, it was a beautiful sealing and they both looked so happy! After the sealing we went to JP's mothers house for another yummy mexican lunch and then off we were back to the airport to catch our flight home. After a layover in Denver we arrived back in Boise around 9pm that night. It was a quick trip, but worth every minute of it. We are so happy for JP and Leah and so grateful that Shad's mom was willing to watch her grand babies so we could be there!!
